چکیده

Specific crosses resulting in 305 litters sired by Duroc, Spot or Hampshire boars out of Landrace, Duroc-Landrace or YorkshireLandrace sows were evaluated for preweaning and postweaning performance. Duroc-sired litters were heavier (P<.05) at 21 days postfarrowing than Spotor Hampshiresired litters. Hampshire-sired litters were heavier (P<.05) at birth than Spot-s i red litters. Litters from crossbred sows were larger in number (P<.05) and heavier at 21 (P<.01) and 42 days (P<.05) than those from Landrace sows. However, survival rate to weaning did not differ significantly between the litters from crossbred and from purebred females. There were no significant differences in lit ter size between Duroc-Landrace and YorkshireLandrace sows. However, pigs out of DurocLandrace sows were heavier (P<.01) at birth than pigs out of Yorkshire-Landrace sows. The interactions of the Spot and Hampshire sire breeds with the Landrace and crossbred Landrace dam breeds were significant for lit ter size at 21 and 42 days and for survival rate. A change in the rankings for these traits was noted. Pig weights at 21 and 42 days showed the same interaction. Maximum preweaning performance resulted from the mating of Duroc boars to Duroc-Landrace or Yorkshire-Landrace sows or of Hampshire boars to Duroc-Landrace sows. No significant differences among the sire breeds were noted in progeny postweaning daily gain or days to 100 kilograms. Pigs out of Duroc-Landrace sows had higher postweaning gains (P<.10)

Evaluation of Agronomic Traits and Drought Tolerance of Safflower Lines Derived from Three Inter-Specific Crosses

Due to genetic erosion over evolution events, the genetic diversity of domesticated safflower species for drought tolerance is limited. Wild species has been considered as useful genetic resources for improvement of abiotic stress tolerance. In this study, a cultivated species (C. tinctorius) was crossed by two wild species (C. palaestinus and C. oxyacanthus) and the genotypes were purified unt...

Discrimination and preliminary selection of self-compatible progenies among controlled crosses in almond using Sf specific primer

Self-incompatibility in almond and Prunus species is an important trait that prevents self-fertilization. Selfincompatibility in almond is controlled gametophytically by the multiallelic S-locus. Present study was done in order to identification and preliminary selection of self compatible progenies resulted from controlled crosses in almond using specific primer SfF/SfR. Some important morphol...

A-optimal diallel crosses for test versus control comparisons

A-optimality of block designs for control versus test comparisons in diallel crosses is investigated. A sufficient condition for designs to be A-optimal is derived. Type S 0 designs are defined and A-optimal type S 0 designs are characterized. A lower bound to the A-efficiency of type S 0 designs is also given. Using the lower bound to A-efficiency, type S 0 designs are shown to yield efficient...

Genetic Distance Based on SSR Markers and Testcross Performance of Maize Inbred Lines

The identification of parental inbred lines to develop superior hybrids is a rather costly and time-consuming step in maize breeding. In some cases, pedigree information has been used to select diverse parental lines. In the case of Iranian maize inbred lines, this information is not fully available. In this study we investigated the genetic distance (GD) based on Simple sequence Repeats (SSR) ...

Estimation of Genetic Parameters, General and Specific Combining Ability in Iranian Endemic Coriander Populations

In any breeding program, knowledge of the nature of gene action involved in the inheritance of traits is a basic requirement. In this research, diallel crosses progenies of six coriander landrace were evaluated in F1 and F2 generations. The genotypes were evaluated in different irrigation conditions in three separate experiments, in which each experiment was conducted in a randomized complete b...

Nuclear and Cytoplasmic Inheritance of Salt Tolerance in Bread Wheat Plants Based on Ion Contents and Biological Yield

Although inter-variety variability for salt tolerance has been reported in bread wheat plants, little information is available on the genetic control of ion contents and biomass yield under saline conditions. A diallel cross, including reciprocals of two salt tolerant, two moderately tolerant and two sensitive Iranian and exotic bread wheat varieties, was analyzed to investigate the inheritance...
